The 3 Harbours Arts Festival – East Lothian ( Lots more info at our website www.3harbours.com)
Prestonpans, Cockenzie and Port Seton, three very picturesque harbours, join together each year to stage the 3 harbours arts festival. Now in its third year you can experience a very unique journey between these harbours and en-route you will be able to see artwork in a variety of interesting and unusual venues. From private homes to community buildings from shop windows to swimming pools, not forgetting fish shops, artists studios, churches, museums, garages and schools. One off events will feature talks, workshops, ceilidhs, dance, drama and concerts from individuals, organisations and groups. The inspiration for the festival came from the wonderful array of art, which flourishes in East Lothian and is borne out of the enthusiasm of local creative people and their talents. This exciting creativity is diverse and covers painting, drawing, sculpture, music, drama, dance, writing, art installations and so much more.
This years cultural extravaganza will run over ten days from Friday 30 May until Sunday 8 June and will feature a host of eye catching visual and cultural artistic marvels. Last years festival saw more than 2000 participants and 140 venues taking part with a footfall of over 18,000 people contributing to the increase in tourism and awareness of our beautiful coastline. One highlight is the marvellous landmark, the Cockenzie Power Station; visible from across Edinburgh and the Lothian’s which will be illuminated again for a week. The two chimneys of the power station will be lit up along with other buildings, harbours and public spaces along the East Coast for the duration of the three harbours. The success of the flood lit Morison’s Haven last year, featuring model boats made by local school children, has led to an even bigger global project, with thousands of paper boats expected from around the world this year.
To open the festival, Tasmin Little, famous violinist, will serenade the lit chimneys with music from her latest album “The Naked Violin”. This will take place on Friday 30th May.
‘One of the most ambitious community arts projects in Scotland’ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The 3 Harbours Arts Festival takes place 30th May to the 8 June 2008 in the East Lothians towns of Prestonpans, Cockenzie and Port Seton. Last year the festival brought over 7,000 people into the region and helped boost the local economy. The festival is run completely by volunteers and mostly in kind funding. This year we have a new addition to the festival – we are introducing the John Muir Art Trail which incorporates our all-inclusive policy. Fringe venues in towns further along the East Lothian coast will be included in the programme by holding their own events and the 3HAF bus will be organising daily tours to visit these events.
